The party were angling when one of the men took unwell. Eyemouth lifeboat 'Helen Hastings' was launched and reached the scene quickly.

Two of the Eyemouth volunteers went onboard to assess the situation and give first aid.

Both the lifeboat and the charter boat returned to Eyemouth harbour where Scottish Ambulance Service, Eyemouth Coastguard and Berwick Coastguard rescue team assisted. The casualty was handed over to the care of the ambulance crew.

The casualty was reported to have been released from the Borders General hospital later in the evening.

Eyemouth Coxswain, Andrew Jamieson said, ‘our RNLI volunteers are trained in Casualty Care, an intensive first aid course designed to enable crew to provide correct and effective care to a casualty until such time as they can be handed over to the expertise of paramedics or doctors. The course goes beyond basic first aid and gives crew the confidence to know that when the time comes, they are well prepared to deal with whatever situation comes their way, often in challenging conditions’.

It costs an average of £1,400 to train a volunteer crew member to carry out their role on the lifeboat. From nautical navigation to effective search patterns, emergency mechanical repairs on the lifeboat to casualty care, our RNLI crews are trained to a high standard, all thanks to public support.
