The local DPD depot in Dundee have been supporting Broughty Ferry RNLI Lifeboat Station since 2023. The team raised £2,080 over a 12-month period and presented a cheque to the local lifeboat station in February 2024.

In addition to raising vital funds for the local station, DPD Dundee attended the station’s Emergency Services Day and Fisherman’s Beer Festival, as well as conducting a beach clean.

Following the ongoing work between DPD Dundee and Broughty Ferry RNLI Lifeboat Station, DPD has decided to donate £50,000 to the RNLI to support their lifesaving work across the UK.

The £50,000 donation will support three lifeboat refits: with one in Scotland, England and Wales.

D class lifeboat refits take place every two to three years depending on condition and use. During the two weeklong refit, approximately 180 hours of work will be done with the lifeboat undergoing a full inspection to determine exactly the level of work required.

A refit includes the lifeboat engine being refurbished, sponsons pressure tested along with any electrics checked, meaning the lifeboat will come back like new and ready to save lives.

Tim Jones, Director of Marketing, Communications & Sustainability at DPDgroup UK commented, “We are incredibly proud to support the RNLI and the amazing work they do, right across the UK. As a nation, we depend on the selflessness and courage of volunteers to save lives at sea, so it is important to remember that this is an organisation that is powered primarily by donations. At DPD, we encourage all our people to get involved and give back to their local communities and the team in Dundee are passionate supporters of the RNLI, so we are absolutely delighted to make this contribution.

Paul McKeown, Partnerships and Fundraising Lead, commented, “Thanks to the hard work of Broughty Ferry RNLI and DPD, this very generous donation will support lifeboat stations around the UK and help save lives at sea.”
