Wicklow RNLI are delighted to announce the appointment of Joe Healy as new Lifeboat Operations Manager, following the retirement of Mary Aldridge.

As operations manager, Joe will be responsible for authorising the launch of the station’s two lifeboats and providing leadership of the operations team. He will also ensure that operational activities are conducted to keep the lifeboats and that all associated equipment is in a constant state of readiness for launching on service.

Joe has been volunteering at Wicklow RNLI since 2020 and joined as a volunteer Launching authority during the Covid -19 pandemic. Speaking about his new role, Joe said:” I want to thank Mary for all she has contributed to our station, l hope to continue and build on that during my time as Operations manager.”

Key facts about the RNLI

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives.
