Arranmore RNLI responds to two medical evacuations from the island
RNLI Resilience Coxswain Sean Curtin, from Valentia Island in Kerry has responded to two call outs from Malin Head Coast Guard since his arrival on Arranmore.
Both calls were to assist in medical evacuations from the island. The first call was on Wednesday (11 September) at 10.30pm and the second, today, Wednesday (18 September) at 12.30pm. Both patients were escorted by lifeboat to Burtonport for transfer to Letterkenny University Hospital. Arranmore crew onboard the Severn class lifeboat Myrtle Maud, were Coxswain Sean Curtin, mechanic Philip Mc Cauley, John Mc Hugh, Kieran O’Donnell, Jamie Neeson, JJ O’Donnell and Brian Proctor.
Speaking following the call out, Coxswain Sean Curtin said: ‘Due to spring tides the water level was really low and I would like to pay tribute to the crew on board today for their knowledge of the local area. It is a pleasure to work with the Arranmore crew as they are so knowledgeable of the tides and the area in which they operate.
‘Working out of the new station which was recently opened is a great experience. On my last service here, we operated out of porta cabins which was rather cramped and the space in the new building is great to work out of. On behalf of the crew I would like to wish both patients a speedy recovery.'
