RNLI 200 Scroll visits Girvan Volunteers
Connecting our Communities Scroll visiting every Lifeboat station lands in Girvan
To mark the RNLI’s 200th anniversary. a special scroll is being transported far and wide in an all-electric Ford E-Transit, bringing RNLI communities together for this extraordinary moment in our lifesaving history, and last night the scroll was welcomed to Girvan Lifeboat by our volunteers.
On this scroll is the RNLI’s One Crew pledge, in which we promise our commitment to saving every one we can, without judgment – staying true to Sir William Hillary’s vision when he founded the charity in 1824. Members of our crew, fundraisers, shop team and Water Safety team were asked to sign the scroll and commit to the pledge.
The scroll was signed in Girvan by John Gourlay, John Tait and Isobel Bone and David Bova, representing the Operations team, Shop/Crew, Fundraising and Water Safety teams respectively.
The pledge reads: ‘Whoever we are, wherever we are from, we are one crew, ready to save lives. We’re powered by passion, talent and kindness, like generations of selfless lifesavers before us. This is our watch, we lead the way, valuing each other, trusting each other, depending on one another, volunteering to face the storm together. Knowing that, with courage, nothing is impossible. That is what has always driven us to save every one we can. It's what makes every one of us a lifesaver.’
Beneath the pledge, printed in seven languages (English, Irish, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Ulster Scots, Manx, and Cornish), it says: ‘Signed in 2024 by representatives of the RNLI’s lifesaving communities, on behalf of all who strive to save every one.’
