The volunteer crew of RNLI Portree have accepted a donation of over £1000 from a local boat club to help support the lifesaving charity.

Gairloch Boat Club, based in the Wester Ross village of Gairloch, raised £1217 through fundraising initiatives such as 'Knit a Hat for the RNLI'.

Fundraising has been ongoing to help the RNLI celebrate 200 years of Saving Lives at Sea.

The nearest lifeboat to serve the waters around Gairloch is the Trent class All Weather Lifeboat Stanley Watson Barker 1416, based at RNLI Portree on the Isle of Skye.

The volunteer crew from the Skye station, which was established in 1991, were delighted to receive the donation cheque from members of the Gairloch Boat Club at the September Maritime Day organised by neighbouring RNLI station Kyle of Lochalsh.

As a charity, the RNLI relies on donations - such as by Gairloch Boat Club - to help support the mission of saving lives at sea. This includes providing our volunteers with the kit, equipment and lifeboats they need to save lives.
