Beaumaris RNLI volunteers tasked to a report of an upturned kayak on the Strait
On Tuesday (3 September) at 7.33pm, volunteer lifeboat crew from Beaumaris RNLI were tasked to a reported upturned orange kayak.
The Beaumaris RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew launched their Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington and proceeded to the advised location. In addition to the lifeboat volunteers, the Mobile Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bangor had also been tasked.
It transpired that it was in fact a derelict tender stuck in the mud near Church Island by Menai Bridge. One the volunteer lifeboat crew made their way to the craft but was unable to move it consequently after consultation with the coastguard it was decided to leave it in situ.
The crew member returned with the Bangor Mobile Coastguard team to the lifeboat station whilst the lifeboat returned by sea being cleaned and refuelled and ready for her next service call by 9.00 pm
A RNLI spokesperson said: ‘Our collaboration with the Coastguard ensures that we can respond swiftly and effectively. By working together, we can pool our expertise and resources, ultimately providing the best possible care and support to those in need’.
