On Saturday evening, Holyhead Coastguard tasked Rhyl RNLI crews to launch and assist a person on Prestatyn Beach. First on the scene was the inshore lifeboat and the crew quickly located and identified the casualty as having a dislocated knee.

Shortly afterwards, the all-weather lifeboat arrived on scene and transferred two volunteer crew members and a basket stretcher onto shore. Alongside colleagues from HM Coastguard, pain relief was administered to the casualty before they were prepared to be moved.

Due to the location of the casualty, it was decided the most efficient extraction method was to transfer them to the inshore lifeboat before moving them onto the all-weather lifeboat. The casualty was then brought back to the boat house where an awaiting ambulance crew took over and provided assistance while en route to Glan Clwyd Hospital.

Martin Jones, Coxswain of the all-weather lifeboat said: “Due to the location of the casualty, this had the potential to be a very challenging rescue, becoming almost inaccessible to land units. I would like to express my utmost thanks to the teams from HM Coastguard for the invaluable teamwork that resulted in a successful rescue, demonstrating again the technical abilities of all crews involved.”
