Beaumaris RNLI and HM Coastguard safely evacuate an injured walker
On Monday (2 September) at 1.20pm, volunteer lifeboat crew from Beaumaris RNLI were tasked by HM Coastguard to a walker who had fallen and seriously injured a leg.
The Beaumaris RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew launched their Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington and proceeded to the advised location. In addition to the lifeboat volunteers, the Mobile Coastguard Rescue Teams from Penmon and Bangor had also been tasked.
Once on scene after consultation with the coastguard due to the severity of the injury it was decided to administer strong pain relief and place the casualty on a rigid stretcher with appropriate padding and transport the casualty on the lifeboat. to the pier at Menai Bridge for transfer to a road ambulance.
However, it was ascertained that the ambulance would be delayed, after consultation with the coastguard in view of the weather conditions was decided to take the casualty to the lifeboat station at Beaumaris, so that they would be warmer and under cover.
Once the casualty had been transferred to the crew room this enabled the lifeboat to be reinstated as available for service should another call come in.
Once the ambulance had arrived and taken the casualty aboard, the lifeboat volunteers ensured that the lifeboat was fully refuelled and cleaned, before leaving at 6.00pm
A RNLI spokesperson said: ‘Our collaboration with the Coastguard ensures that we can respond swiftly and effectively. By working together, we can pool our expertise and resources, ultimately providing the best possible care and support to those in need.
