The 9m yacht with two people on board had called the UK Coastguard requesting assistance when one of the crew had become incapacitated through illness.

The lifeboat launched and was alongside the yacht 10 minutes later. Two casualty care trained crew were put aboard to assess the situation. After a quick assessment it was agreed that the best course of action was to leave the casualty on their boat and take the yacht in tow to Poole Harbour to decrease their journey time.

The towline was passed across and a course plotted for Poole Quay. An hour and 15 minutes later the yacht was secured in Poole Quay boat haven and the lifeboat volunteers were released to return to Swanage.

The lifeboat was back on its slipway at 11.26pm where it was washed down and made ready for service.
