Jane Masey, Water Safety Officer, says: ‘Newhaven RNLI runs a welcoming and inclusive team. Training will be provided to fulfil the role, in which new skills and experience may be gained, as well as earning the satisfaction of giving back.’
The Water Safety Advisor will provide RNLI water safety advice to members of the public, including in schools, and actively seek opportunities to promote targeted RNLI safety messages.
‘Some knowledge of local water-based activity and environment is desirable. We will be looking for someone passionate, with a keen interest in improving water safety.’
Activities include attending regular water safety meetings and presenting to or engaging with members of the public. Maintaining good relationships with local stakeholders and partners.
‘The role of Water Safety Advisor is integral to our mission to save more lives at sea. This is a great opportunity to gain new skills, build personal confidence and make new friendships whilst benefitting your local community.’
There has been an RNLI lifeboat station in Newhaven since 1854 and the crew there have operated their current all-weather lifeboat, the Severn class ‘David and Elizabeth Acland’ for 24 years. Newhaven RNLI also operates a D class inshore lifeboat that began its two-year trial of service in August 2024.
