Troon and Arran RNLI lifeboats launch to assist yacht at Cumbrae
Shortly after 1am on Sunday 1 September 2024, as the volunteer lifeboat crew slept, Belfast Coastguard activated the pagers to assist a yacht at Millport, Isle of Cumbrae that had run aground with 5 people onboard.
With the crew assembling, the D class inshore lifeboat was prepared for the launch and transported by road to a suitable launch site.
After launching, with the assistance of Cumbrae Coastguard Rescue Team, the casualty vessel was located by Troon and Arran lifeboats and was now afloat. After liaising with those onboard, it was decided that the best course of action was to escort the vessel to Largs Yacht Haven.
Troon inshore lifeboat assisted with escorting the casualty vessel and this allowed Arran lifeboat to return to station.
With a crew member on board to provide some additional assistance, the casualty vessel was successfully escorted to Largs Yacht Haven and secured alongside with the assistance of the Largs Coastguard Rescue Team.
The inshore lifeboat was recovered and returned to Troon where it was made ‘ready for service’ with the assistance of the shore crew.
