Walmer’s Atlantic 85 Donald McLauchlan launched at 6.57am this morning, 28 October, to an 11-metre yacht with three people on board aground on the Goodwin Sands and taking on water six miles east of the lifeboat station. The lifeboat arrived on scene within 11 minutes.

In a two-metre swell, the casualties were taken on board the lifeboat and given a health check before being transferred to Ramsgate lifeboat.

Walmer's lifeboat was recovered ashore at 8.10am.

Walmer lifeboat station was established in 1856.

It currently operates two inshore lifeboats – a B Class Atlantic 85 Donald McLauchlan and a smaller D Class Duggie Rodbard II.
