Port Eynon RNLI lifeboat aids boat in difficulty

Lifeboats News Release

At 4pm on Sunday (27 October 2024), the Horton and Port Eynon RNLI lifeboat was launched after information was received that a boat was in difficulty in Three Cliffs bay.

The crew of the lifeboat located the boat and noted that it contained four people wearing wetsuits and buoyancy aids. The boat had broken down. It was cold and darkness was falling. The occupants of the boat tried to restart the boat’s engine but were unable to do so. In view of the falling temperature and as it was getting dark with no other boats around on the water, it was decided the safety course of action was for the crew of the RNLI lifeboat to tow the casualty vessel back to the shore at Oxwich.

The boat was recovered at Oxwich and the RNLI lifeboat and crew returned to the station in Horton. Lawrie Grove, Lifeboat Operations Manager for Horton and Port Eynon RNLI said:

‘When going to sea always wear a lifejacket. Also make sure you have a means of calling for help and make sure you check the weather and tide times. You should also ensure that someone ashore knows where you are going and who to call if you do not return on time.’
