Norfolk musicians to hold a sea shanty event to celebrate the RNLI’s 200 year
On Sunday 1st December at 5pm, Pot of Gold sea shanty crew will be performing at the Maddermarket Theatre. At the ticketed event all proceeds will be donated to the RNLI Norfolk Inland fundraising branch to help the charity continue saving lives at sea.
The Maddermarket Theatre is run by volunteers in the community who have organised the event. RNLI fundraising volunteer Karen Bone said: ‘We are honoured that Pot of Gold will be performing to raise funds for our 24/7 lifesaving service. We are particularly delighted that they have written a song for the RNLI as it celebrates 200 years this year.’
Pot of Gold singer Steve Price said: ‘We at Pot of Gold Shanty Crew are delighted to have been given the opportunity to put on this concert to help raise funds for and to celebrate the RNLI’s 200. We'd like to thank everybody who has made this possible.
‘The perils of life at sea are a common theme in a lot of the songs we sing so we are well aware of the valuable work the RNLI carry out, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
‘We have done several performances from the decks of the HF Bailey in the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum in Cromer and one of the songs that we will be performing is a song, written by one of our members, that celebrates Henry Blogg's long service as Coxswain of the Cromer Lifeboat. We hope you enjoy the song and the rest of our performances.
Pot of Gold will perform original interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk and songs of the sea. The musicians encourage audience participation and there will be a raffle.
It comes after the RNLI celebrated 200 years of saving lives at sea on Monday 4th March 2024 – thanks to volunteers giving their time to save others, all funded by voluntary public donations.
Tickets from £12.60 via the Maddermarket Theatre’s website.
