Newbiggin Lifeboat Volunteers presented with Kings Coronation Medals
On Sunday 27 October, Newbiggin RNLI welcomed His Majesty’s Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Keith Green to the lifeboat station.
The Deputy Lord-Lieutenant was representing the Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland in presenting the King's Coronation medal to four volunteers at Newbiggin RNLI.
Mr Green was welcomed to the station by Ron Henderson, Lifeboat Operations Manager for Newbiggin RNLI and was given a tour of the lifeboat station as well as meeting a number of volunteers who had been taking part in the regular Sunday morning training programme.
The commemorative medals were created to honour the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, that took place on 6 May 2023. As well as the Armed Forces, the medal was awarded to members of the Civilian Emergency Services, such as the RNLI, who had completed 5 years’ continuous service, and were in service at the time of the coronation. Coronation medals were presented to 4,500 frontline RNLI volunteers and staff, with Newbiggin RNLI volunteers receiving 8 for volunteers who had given 5 years or more continuous service.
The volunteers were then presented with their medals in the boathouse area and Mr Green was able to find out further details of their volunteering with the RNLI.
Ron Henderson, Lifeboat Operations Manager, thanked Mr. Green for taking the time to carry out the presentation at Newbiggin RNLI and congratulated the recipients saying ‘This is another milestone for the volunteer team here at Newbiggin and we would like to thank Mr Green for coming along to make this presentation so special.’
