Local School Raise Money for the RNLI after Water Safety Presentation.
Eight Students from Peacehaven Community School visited Newhaven RNLI on Monday 14 October after fundraising for the lifesaving charity.
Peacehaven Community School has raised a fantastic £1,296.54 for the RNLI after a presentation from Newhaven RNLI’s Water Safety Team inspired them to fundraise for the lifesaving charity. In the weeks following the presentation, the school reinforced the RNLI's water safety messages during lessons alongside fundraising.
Peacehaven Community School’s students and staff were asked to vote for which local charity they’d like to fundraise for over the last academic year. Newhaven RNLI came out on top. Students from Peacehaven Community School organised a series of events and fundraising opportunities such as bake sales, non-uniform days, bucket shaking, a second-hand book sale and an Easter Egg hunt for local primary schools, to raise money for Newhaven RNLI.
During their visit to our lifeboat station, the students met with volunteer lifeboat crew members who showed them around the station, including some of the RNLI’s lifesaving equipment, and how the money that they raised will go towards Saving Lives at Sea.
Jane Masey, Water Safety Officer, said: ‘It’s fantastic that the younger generation want to support the RNLI in its mission to Save Lives at Sea. Support from local communities motivates our lifeboat crew and other volunteers to continue their lifesaving work. 100% of money raised locally will go towards keeping our lifeboat crew ready for the next call for help.’

· Severn Class – Named after the River Severn, the Severn Class is the largest lifeboat in the RNLI fleet. The Severn can take on the worst sea conditions and comes into her own on long offshore search and rescues.
