Guernsey RNLI seeks new premises for Island’s shop
St Peter Port RNLI’s retail team are looking for new premises to host their RNLI shop when their current lease at their location in St Peter Port Harbour comes to an end in February next year.
Retail is an important source of income for the charity with shops selling all things RNLI from clothing to gifts to homeware and stationery. Staffed entirely by volunteers, every penny of profit from the shop goes directly to saving lives at sea.
Gemma Baker, RNLI Retail Lead says;
‘We have a wonderful team of volunteers who all give up their time for free to work in the St Peter Port shop. They are all passionate about what they do for the RNLI with many of them having a close connection to the RNLI, whether that’s through family, or the appreciation being an Island community of how important the services of the lifeboat crews is.
It’s important for our volunteers that the time they dedicate to being in the shop reaps the most benefit to the charity. Unfortunately, in its current location which is slightly away from the busy high street in St Peter Port, we simply don’t have the footfall needed to make the shop profitable.
We’d love to hear from any local businesspeople who have an empty retail space or can offer an opportunity from which our volunteers can operate.
It’s been a busy and exciting year for the RNLI in Guernsey, with a new lifeboat arriving in March, which was named in May and the celebrations for the charity’s 200th anniversary, it would be a fantastic opportunity to continue to showcase the crew and the amazing work they do for the Island.’
