Porthdinllaen RNLI assist in search for suspected missing diver.

Porthdinllaen RNLI all Weather Tamar Class lifeboat were requested to launch to investigate a suspect object in the sea near Porthysgaden.

A possible object had been spotted by a member of the public earlier in the sea near Porthysgaden. With the local Coastguard team from Porthdinllaen on scene now observing the object, the lifeboat was requested to launch to investigate further.

Arriving on scene the volunteer lifeboat crew who continued a search for a possible missing person in the water, with Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from nearby Caernarfon Airport, a Coastguard fixed wing aircraft from Liverpool and land-based Coastguard teams from Abersoch and Aberdaron joining in the search.

Porthdinllaen Lifeboat were tasked to search an area of over 30 square miles between Porthysgaden and Porthdinllaen point with a thorough search conducted by the team in difficult conditions with deteriorating weather and light fading. With no sighting made by any of those involved, the search was called off after 10:30 pm, with Porthdinllaen Lifeboat returning to station, washed down, refuelled, and ready for service by 10:45 pm.

Kenneth Fitzpatrick, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Porthdinllaen added “Our team made a thorough search and saturated the area of concern, in what was a difficult condition with failing light and strong winds. Our thanks to our search partners for their assistance and professionalism, we are all thinking of the family of the suspected missing person at this time”.

Porthdinllaen's volunteer crew were tasked to continue to assist other assets with the search on Saturday (30 November).
