Informative talk

At Moose International Headquarters in Tredegar, Lifeboat Operations Manager Clive Morris provided an informative talk on the mission of the RNLI and the operation at Port Talbot Lifeboat station.

Supporting Clive that evening were RNLI Shop Volunteers Sue Summerfield and Anne Marie Evans, who brought along a selection of items from the station's gift shop. Proving popular on the evening were the RNLI Christmas cards and calendars, and over £60 was raised through the sale of these items.

President of the society Amanda Davies said:

'Our members wanted to support our local lifeboat station at Aberavon Beach which is in a beautiful location and is our nearest beach. Members wanted to show their support to the crew who do not hesitate to help others when the call is made to launch the lifeboat. We have learnt a lot from the talk given by Clive regarding the RNLI and the work that the volunteer crews undertake around the country, risking their lives to save others’.

All of the volunteer crew at Port Talbot RNLI are deeply grateful for the wonderful and generous donation of £1,500 received from Moose International, which is a charity itself founded in 1926. Their motto is to work together for the good of the community which is very close to the RNLI's vision to save everyone. The money raised was only possible through the work of their volunteers Social 1 Committee and the Ladies Circle combined.

Later in the week on Thursday 14 November, Carys Hope Customer and Community Engagement Officer for Tai Tarian, popped into the station gift shop to present the Shop Management Team with an iPad. An application was submitted back in October when Tai Tarian opened up the opportunity to community groups around Port Talbot to complete applications to secure an iPad to help with the work and the services they provide.

The RNLI Shop Management Team are thrilled to have received the iPad which will help with stock ordering, capturing images of new stock and the all important window displays - so that they can be shared on social media. This will help with boosting awareness of the RNLI Shop, which is a hub of the lifeboat station with it being open 7 days a week by a dedicated team of 30 volunteers.

Carys Hope said:

'It's fantastic that this donation can make a real difference to the ability of the RNLI fundraisers in our local community. It will allow them to continue their important work. This is part of a donation of over 150 iPads which the Community and Customer, Technology and Innovation Teams have made to local schools and community groups.’
