A new Lifeboat Operations Manager for the Sheerness RNLI Lifeboat station.
Crew members welcomed long serving RNLI volunteer Alan Carr to the station in his role as lifeboat Operations Manager, replacing Nigel Budden who had stepped down after being the Sheerness LOM for a number of years.
Alan began volunteering with the RNLI almost 15 years ago, in January 2010, as a crew member at Gravesend lifeboat station.
Throughout the last decade and a half, he has helped rescue and assist numerous people and animals who found themselves in difficulty along the River Thames.
In 2013 he took on the role of volunteer lifeboat press officer for Gravesend and helped promote the important work being done by the station.
Now, at 51 years old, and with next year marking his 15th anniversary of volunteering, he has decided to hang up his ‘yellow wellies’ and trade them for a new challenge that allows him to continue his work with the RNLI from the shore.
Alan said: ‘I am really looking forward to working with all the dedicated volunteers at Sheerness lifeboat station and will put my all into leading the team towards new heights’
From all at the Sheerness boathouse, welcome aboard Alan and our thanks to Nigel for his service as a volunteer crew member and latterly as our LOM.
