Aran Islands RNLI carry out a double medical evacuation
Aran Islands RNLI carried out a double medical evacuation off islands Inis Mór and Inis Oírr yesterday (Monday 4 November).
The volunteer crew were requested to launch their all-weather lifeboat David Kirkaldy, at 11.25am following a request from the Irish Coast Guard to transfer a patient off Inis Oírr.
The volunteer crew launched at 11.45am and while underway to Inis Oírr, the Coast Guard requested the volunteer crew to transfer a second patient off Inis Mór.
The crew arrived in Inis Oírr at 12.05pm and received handover from the local doctor. Once the patient was safely transferred onboard the crew departed Inis Oírr and arrived in Inis Mór at 12.30pm. The crew received handover from the local doctor and with with the assistance of the Aran Fire and Rescue Service, the lifeboat crew safely transferred the patient onboard. The lifeboat continued to Ros a Mhíl with both patients and once they arrived, they were transferred to awaiting ambulances.
Weather conditions at the time were good with a South Easterly, force 3 wind, slight seas and good visibility.
Speaking following the call out, Aonghus O Hiarnain, Aran Islands RNLI Coxswain said: ‘We would like to wish both casualties a speedy recovery and thank our colleagues in the fire and ambulance service for their cooperation and also the local doctors on Inis Oírr and Inis Mór.’
