Penarth RNLI supported by Stanwell School pupils
Stanwell School pupils and staff took up the challenge to support Penarth RNLI's target of raising £20,000 during the 2024 celebration of the charity’s 200th Anniversary.
Stanwell School Charity Committee decided to raise money for their chosen charitable cause, the RNLI. The school pupils held a ‘dress down day’ earlier in the summer term and then followed this tremendous effort by doing a sponsored staff car wash more recently.
Sixth form pupils and members of the committee came to the lifeboat station to present a cheque to Laurie Pavelin, Chairman of Penarth RNLI. They raised just over £1,500 and £500 respectively.
Laurie Pavelin said: 'It is so special to get this engagement with Stanwell’s young adults, we have plans to continue the RNLI 200 celebrations throughout 2024, marking this special moment in history and hoping to inspire the next generation of lifesavers.’
The charity committee were given a tour of the station, a detailed presentation of the two lifeboats in the station, a D class and the Atlantic 85 B class lifeboat and heard of how crew members, who all live in Penarth, train and go out to save lives at sea.
Thank you Stanwell School, the money you raised will buy a complete set of kit for one of our recent recruits, who is starting on their training to become a fully qualified lifeboat crew member. Perhaps we will see future lifesavers come from the local school.Media contacts
