Aberdeen RNLI celebrate long service awards and King’s Coronation Medals

Aberdeen RNLI volunteers celebrated at a ceremony on Monday, 28 October 2024, at Fittie Community Hall. Four Long Service Awards, three Letters of Thanks and one Certificate of Service were awarded, and volunteers were presented with their Kings Coronation Medals.

The event, attended by the Lord Provost and Lady Provost, was organised to recognise the dedication of RNLI volunteers, including crew, fundraisers and operations, and to award King’s Coronation Medals, which were issued to frontline emergency service personnel who had completed five or more years of service in 2023.

Four Long Service Awards, recognising over 20 years of dedication and service to Aberdeen RNLI, were issued to Dr Stuart Braithwaite, Leslie McLeish, and Henry and Betty Lumsden.

Furthermore, three Letters of Thanks were presented to Sam Freeman, Kirsty Main, and Andrew Haines who also received a Certificate of Service.

The King’s Coronation Medals were presented to Aiden Hardy, Andy Haines, Bruce Finnie, Cal Reed, Cameron Dewar, Ciaran McRae, Davie Orr, Grant Bruce, Kirsty Main, Mark Gray, Matthew Foster, Michael Cowlam, Sam Freeman, Stephen Brown, Stuart Braithwaite, Stuart Gibb, Susan McNeill, Zubin Jehangir, Andy Watson, Gary Cruickshank, Bill Deans and Dr Sam Robson.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
