RNLI Barmouth launch to reports of people in difficulty

Lifeboats News Release

The pagers sounded at 12.55pm on Friday 31st of May as the volunteer crew of In shore lifeboat (ILB) Craig Steadman were tasked by HM Coastguard to reports of four people, possibly in difficulty, on the sandbank near the bridge.

Launching to assist with good visibility and slight seas from the harbour, the team of three crew made their way to the casualty location.

On arriving the scene they found the casualties safely ashore.

The volunteer crew made their way back to the harbour for recovery and returned to the boathouse where ILB Craig Steadman was refuelled and readied for service.

A false alarm with good intent.

Helm Daryl James said ‘Thank you to the person who called this in, if someone is in doubt we’d always rather they make the call and we can check it out. It is down to the vigilance of the public, calling 999 when they see someone in trouble, that we are able to save lives at sea.’
