Attending the Buckingham palace garden party from Borth Lifeboat Station was Tim Ellis-Clark (20 years), Yvette Ellis-Clark (volunteer fundraiser), Amanda and Lee Trubshaw (30 years), Trudie and Mike Wilcox (20years), Sian and Will Stockford (both former Borth RNLI crew – and Will still volunteers as Helm with Aberdyfi RNLI), and Angie and Louis Delahaye (40 years).
Incredibly this group have over 130 years of combined volunteering with Borth RNLI, with many of them still continuing their volunteering today. On the day, Louis and Angie Delahaye had the further honor of being invited to attend the Royal Tea Tent where members enjoyed time with the hosts HRH Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and RNLI President HRH The Duke of Kent.
Louis Delahaye said: ‘It was such a special opportunity to come together with my fellow Borth RNLI volunteers and celebrate at Buckingham Palace, in what is a historic year for our lifesaving charity.
‘The RNLI is an incredible 200 years old and Thursday’s event was a moment to come together as one crew and celebrate all of the volunteers who make up the charity today, as well as take a moment to think about all those who’ve come before us.
‘It was a real honor and privilege and it’s a proud moment I’ll remember forever.’
The amazing number of years of dedicated volunteering provided by this small group of people along with the thousands of RNLI volunteers of the past 200 years, would not have been possible without the generous ongoing donations from RNLI supporters and members of the public.
The RNLI continues to need your support to train volunteers in their specific roles and to maintain a lifeboat station’s volunteer crew and lifesaving equipment.
