Long serving Llandudno RNLI members attend Garden Party

Last week marked a momentous occasion as the RNLI celebrated its 200th year with a magnificent garden party at Buckingham Palace. The event was attended by approximately 2,500 dedicated volunteers, staff, and their families, all coming together to honour the incredible legacy of the RNLI.

The momentous gathering was graced by the presence of HRH The Princess Royal, accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and RNLI President HRH The Duke of Kent. The garden party brought together individuals from various roles within the charity, including lifeboat crew, lifeguards, water safety volunteers, fundraisers, as well as recipients of meritorious service awards and honours.

Among the distinguished attendees were representatives from Llandudno RNLI, each recognised for their long-standing dedication to the organization. Crew member Davey Roberts was honoured for his remarkable 40 years of service, while 2nd Coxswain Tim James, Launch Authority Paul Moreton, and Shop Volunteer Gill Baggs were recognised for their 20 years of unwavering commitment to the RNLI.

The RNLI 200th Anniversary Garden Party was a truly special occasion, celebrating the selfless contributions and heroic efforts of those who continue to uphold the RNLI's mission of saving lives at sea.

Tim James says “We are incredibly honoured to have been part of such a prestigious event. The garden party was a testament to the dedication and bravery of all the volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our waters. It was a truly unforgettable experience that will stay with us for a lifetime.”

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
