Peterhead RNLI called out twice in one week
Volunteers at Peterhead RNLI were paged twice in one week to assist 2 different vessels – one with a damaged sail and another that had lost power.
On Tuesday 18 June at 4:50pm, the all-weather lifeboat at Peterhead RNLI was tasked to assist a damaged sailboat.
The casualty vessel was damaged and demasted in an earlier incident and had been towed off to Peterhead by another nearby vessel.
When the volunteer crew arrived on scene aboard Peterhead RNLI all-weather lifeboat The Misses Robertson of Kintail, they preformed a dynamic risk assessment and liaison with the casualty vessel and Peterhead Port Authority VTS.
It was decided that the casualty vessel would proceed under power whilst being escorted by Peterhead RNLI all-weather lifeboat into the inner harbour where would be safely berthed.
Peterhead RNLI Coxswain, Fergus McGlone, thanked the volunteer crew for their professionalism and stated: ‘We were more than happy to assist the 4 crew on the casualty vessel and help them reach the safe haven of Peterhead harbour.
‘We all hope that the casualty vessel manage successful repairs and are underway to their destination soon.’
The volunteer crew were also launched on service on Wednesday 19 June to escort another vessel that had lost all power but made way under sail.
