Invergordon RNLI annual Texas Scramble makes waves in fundraising efforts
On Saturday 15 June 2024, the annual RNLI Texas Scramble took place at the Invergordon Golf Club with some sunshine and 80 keen golfers tee’d up for a good round of golf and raising vital funds for the charity that saves lives at sea.
With weather conditions favourable, the 80-strong golfers encompassing over 20 teams, eager for the 10:00am shotgun start which symbolises the beginning of one of the station's biggest fundraising days started by ensuring everyone had their complimentary bacon roll and hot drink, before receiving their goodie bag and making way to their designated starting hole.
With each tee generously sponsored by local businesses and individuals, the tees had their business name and logo on display to showcase the amazing support from the community towards the day.
At 10:00am, the sound of swings (and some sighs) echoed from each tee and the day was underway, with the golf course looking in great condition from the greenkeeping team at Invergordon and the custom hole flags supplied by main sponsor Bubble & Goose Hospitality set the course beautifully.
The day was underway, and the station's two barbeques were on full flow, with an array of Burgers and hotdogs on offer throughout the day to passing golfers, albeit some recovering from the previous night's Scotland football match.
The day concluded with the prize-giving and the much-anticipated winning team coming out on top was the ‘Halfwits’ comprising of Michael Rae, Walter Brown, Darren Anderson and David Kennedy with Lennox Grant taking Closest to the Pin and Angus Maclean winning the Longest Drive
The day was drawing to a close, with the draw of the 100 Squares 4-ball at Cabot Highlands Castle Stuart which was donated by Global Port Services with Hamish Little having the winning number selected by the Google random number generator, before finishing by drawing the raffle to the hundreds of tickets sold!
Overall, the day raised a staggering £13266.00 for Invergordon Lifeboat Station and the RNLI to assist the charity Saving Lives at Sea.
Station Lifeboat Press Officer Michael MacDonald said “This year was a very significant year for Invergordon and the RNLI as it is our 50th Anniversary and the RNLI’s 200th Anniversary so to raise this amazing amount is overwhelming for the charity and I cannot thank the Main Event Sponsor Bubble & Goose Hospitality, Callum Munro Properties (YOPA) our BBQ Sponsor and Harbour Energy for a generous donation enough for their support in our special year along with all our tee sponsors and raffle prize donors.
Thanks also go out to the team of dedicated helpers before and on the day to help make the day run successfully”
