Abersoch RNLI & Barmouth RNLI tasked to assist drifting sailing yacht.
The volunteer crew were paged by HM Coastguard at 10.39am, Friday 21 June 2024 to assist a 28ft bilge keel sailing yacht drifting towards Morfa Bychan.
The ‘Peter & Ann Setten’ Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat was launched at 10.53am and arrived at the scene at 11.22am. Barmouth RNLI ALB was also launched to assist.
The casualty, an adult male, had become unwell and one crew member boarded the vessel, which by then was aground, to assist the casualty. Following assessment the decision was made to await the dropping tide so that the casualty could be safely walked ashore and handed over to the care of the waiting Criccieth Coastguard team. The vessels anchor was deployed to await its recovery on the next tide.
Both lifeboats were then stood down and they left the scene at 12.20pm to return to their respective lifeboat stations where they were washed down, refuelled and left ready for service.
If you get into difficulty or spot someone else in trouble dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
