Fowey’s volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew rescue 3 people and dog
On Saturday 22 June as the wedding bells were ringing in Fowey church to celebrate the wedding of one of the lifeboat crew, the pagers went off.
Falmouth coastguard paged requesting the launch of Fowey’s all-weather lifeboat to assist a broken down 16ft Bayliner. The vessel had 3 people and a dog on board and was experiencing electrical issues. They had managed to anchor of Pentewan, so were not in any immediate danger.
Not all the crew were at the church service, so there were enough volunteers available to launch the lifeboat without disrupting the wedding. They launched at 1.04pm and made best speed to the boat’s location. Once there the crew transferred the people onto the lifeboat and set up a tow for the broken down boat back to Fowey. On arrival in Fowey the boat was transferred to Fowey Harbour patrol and the people and their dog were transferred safely to a Harbour vessel.
