The fundraising event will kick off this Friday (21st June 2024) at 6pm, led by RNLI Mascot ‘Stormy Stan’ and will continue throughout the night and the next day until the target is achieved. Forty five Teddington RNLI volunteers, friends and family, will attempt to walk or run an impressive 200 kilometres in 24 hours, by completing solo laps of the Lock Island as a relay team. Needing to cover 8.4km an hour, it will be quite a challenge. This iconic setting was chosen as it is a key location within the lifeboat station's ‘patch’ on the Thames covering the River Thames between Richmond and Molesey locks. When tasked by HM Coastguard to launch a lifeboat, the all-volunteer crew works closely with the Environment Agency team which manages Teddington Lock and weir, the longest on the River Thames.
Ian Chappell volunteer launch authority, and Jan Lowe volunteer lifeboat crew who co-organised the event said, ‘we would like to thank everyone wholeheartedly for their support for this amazing event.’
The walkers and runners taking part are volunteer lifeboat crew members running in their drysuits and helmets, along with other RNLI volunteers from fundraising, education and water safety. They will be joined by family and friends, plus representatives of partner agencies and other emergency services, including the Environment Agency, City of London Police, Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (Surrey F&RS) and South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secam)The RNLI is funded by donations and money left in wills and could not do without your support so if you would like to donate please use this link.

Or come along and cheer them on - look out for the signs!

Teddington RNLI Station opened in 2002, and is one of the RNLI's newest lifeboat stations. Last year, Teddington RNLI’s lifeboats launched on service 96 times to assist people in trouble on our patch. This achievement was made possible by the dedication of the volunteers at Teddington who work tirelessly to keep the local community safe.
