The lifeboat launched and arrived on scene 7nm NE of Swanage just under 20 minutes later. Nothing was found so an expanding square search was started to investigate the source of the alert.

Twenty minutes later more information was received from the UK Coastguard that suggested that the beacon was located in Poole Harbour and likely to be a false alert. At 12.57pm this was confirmed and the lifeboat was released to return to station.
