The D class inshore lifeboat was first in the water in response to the call, shortly followed by the all-weather Shannon class lifeboat.

The volunteer crews were relieved to hear, very shortly after the launch, that the board and both occupants, one reported to be very young, were safely ashore and being attended to by Swanage coastguard.

Both boats were able to return to their slipways having only been at sea for a few minutes.
