Lifeboat launches during Rainbows Whitby RNLI visit
The Rainbows and Guides were on an organised visit to the station when the pagers sounded.
It is great to get young people into the station as we can share water safety messages which are so important for children living on the coast.
The Rainbows were having fun trying on our helmets and yellow wellies and then when we went outside to look at the lifeboat, the pagers sounded for real.'
The crew arrived on station and the Rainbows looked on while the all weather lifeboat, Lois Ivan, was launched on a multi agency search operation.
Ally Brisby RNLI crew member said: 'It just shows that the pager really can go at any time. We hope that the visit and meeting some of our female crew at Whitby inspired them, who knows maybe one day they will become RNLI volunteers themselves.'
