Seahouses all-weather lifeboat RNLB John and Elizabeth Allan, launched and made best speed to the island landing stage. The crew assessed the casualty, and he was taken aboard the lifeboat with his wife, and conveyed to Seahouses.

On arrival he was taken to the lifeboat station and assessed further, with local coastguards also in attendance. An ambulance was requested, as he required further medical attention.

Seahouses RNLI volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer, Ian Clayton, commented: 'The chap seemed quite shaken, as was his wife, by the unfortunate event. We hope he has no long term effects from his injury. We wish him well for a full recovery, and hope it didn't mar his day out at the Farne Islands too greatly.'

The RNLI has no further information about the casualty or his condition.
