Bude RNLI assist coastguard team with ill casualty from base of steep cliffs

On Sunday 9th June at 3:01pm. Bude inshore lifeboat was launched on service to assist Bude Coastguard Rescue Team down on Upton beach just south of Bude.

Upon arriving on scene Bude CRT had evacuated a casualty to the waters edge to hand over to the lifeboat crew for extraction from the beach.
Once secured, the crew and casualty returned to Summerleaze beach where the land ambulance was waiting at the station to take hand over of the patient, where the ambulance crew then carried out further checks and treatment.
With the summer season approaching and more people starting to explore our beautiful coastline.

Here’s a few safety points to remember when exploring the coast

•let someone know WHERE you are heading, along with WHEN you will be expected back.
•Always carry a means of calling for HELP!
This could be a mobile phone or VHF radio.
•know the tide times, tidal cut offs happen very quickly especially on spring tides.

•carry water, snacks and a extra layer.
•install ‘what 3 words’ app which is used by all emergency services for exact locations.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
