Seahouses RNLI called to assist yacht in difficulty at Holy Island
On Thursday 6 June at 9.59am, Seahouses RNLI were called by HM Coastguard to assist a yacht in difficulty at Holy Island.
Holy Island is a popular safe anchorage for visiting yachts. However, a visiting yacht was dragging its anchor, and also in danger of going aground due to having engine problems and had requested assistance.
The inshore lifeboat (ILB) launched and made best speed to Holy Island.
On their arrival, the yacht had just managed to restart its engine, and a tow line was attached as a safety precaution, due to the yacht’s engine issues, in case the engine cut out again and the yacht ran onto the rocks, endangering its crew.
The yacht was moved under escort by the Inshore Lifeboat, to a safe anchorage, and a tow was not required. Once the yacht was safely anchored, and no longer in any danger, the Lifeboat returned to station.
Seahouses RNLI Volunteer Press Officer Ian Clayton said: 'Prompt action by the inshore lifeboat helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation becoming worse. We were glad to have been able to offer the unfortunate yacht some assistance in their time of need!”
The RNLI has no further information about the yacht at this time.
