Troon RNLI lifeboat launches following Pan Pan from yacht

Lifeboats News Release

At 11.20am on Friday 31 May 2024, the volunteer crew of Troon RNLI lifeboat station were requested to launch by Belfast Coastguard after a ‘Pan Pan’ from a 10m yacht with one person on board drifting towards the shore in Barassie Bay to the north of Troon harbour.

The crew attended and launched quickly launched the Trent class all-weather RNLB Jim Moffat and D class inshore lifeboat Sheena to assist. Within a couple of minutes, both lifeboats were on scene but observed the yacht now aground.

The crew of D class inshore lifeboat approached the vessel and spoke to the sole occupant. As it was approaching low water, it was agreed that an anchor would be set out from the yacht and the crew member would be transferred ashore to await high water when further attempts could be made to remove that yacht from the beach.

The yachts crew member was taken aboard the inshore lifeboat and was transferred to the lifeboat station where they were met by the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team.

Both lifeboats then returned to station where they were made ‘ready for service’ with assistance of the shore crew.
