RNLI Scroll visits Troon RNLI Lifeboat Station

As part of the RNLI’s 200-year celebration, today (Sunday 28 July 2024) Troon RNLI lifeboat station proudly welcomed the RNLI scroll. The scroll, which was made by the charity’s craftsmen, started its journey on the 4 March at Westminster Abbey, it will eventually visit and be signed at every one

On the scroll is the RNLI’s One Crew pledge, in which we promise to continue saving everyone we can for the next 200 years and representatives from the station including crew, lifeboat management group and fundraisers had the honour of signing the scroll.

Troon Lifeboat Operations Manager Jim Redmond commented, ‘It was a proud day for everyone at Troon RNLI lifeboat station as we added our signatures to this historic document, marking the RNLI’s 200 years of saving lives at sea’.

Key facts about the RNLI

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
