The ‘Peter & Ann Setten’ Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat was launched at 9.28pm and arrived at the scene at 9.44pm.

The large breed dog was located and whilst uninjured was clearly distressed and afraid and as a result was displaying signs of stress and aggression. The person looking after the dog whilst the owners were away on holiday, had been unable to coax it back up the cliff. After a very lengthy stand-off whilst the lifeboat crew successfully distracted the animal, another member of the public eventually managed to secure the dog on a lead. Once the dog was safe and had calmed down the volunteer crew left the scene at 00.04am and returned to the station at 00.28am. The lifeboat was then washed down, refuelled and left ready for service.

Abersoch RNLI volunteer helm, Elissa Williams, said ‘’Dogs should be kept on a lead at all times when walking close to cliff edges or the water’s edge.’ She added, ‘If your dog does get stuck or goes into the water don’t go in after them. Move to a place where the dog could easily get out and call them – they will probably get out by themselves. If you’re dog can’t get out, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard’.

If you get into difficulty or spot someone else in trouble dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
