Berwick-upon-Tweed RNLI tasked to kayaker in difficulty

Lifeboats News Release

Berwick-upon-Tweed RNLI's volunteer crew was tasked on 14 July 2024 at 6.14pm by HM Coastguard, after receiving a call from members of the public concerned about what seemed to be a person in a kayak in trouble north of the Berwick Pier.

The Berwick inshore D class lifeboat made haste to the scene. It was ascertained that it was a person fishing in the kayak and after speaking with them and finding that all was well, the lifeboat crew returned the lifeboat to the station where it was made ready for its next service.

The call was made with good intent and the RNLI encourages people to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard, if it's suspected that someone is in difficulty in the water. You could be that person who helps to save a life.

The volunteer crew is on standby 365-days-a-year, 24-hours-a-day.
