Port Talbot RNLI volunteer crew member wins carer of the year award
Volunteer crew member Eirian Evans, advanced nurse practitioner, husband, father, carer and marathon runner was nominated as Carer of the Year at the Nation Radio Pride of Wales Awards.
On Thursday 11 July at the prestigious Brangwyn Hall, Nation Radio’s Pride of Wales Awards took place, sponsored by Atlantic Recycling.
Eirian joined as volunteer crew at Port Talbot two-and-a-half years ago and is a dedicated and committed member of the team, working diligently through his training and assessments whenever time allows.
Not only does Eirian volunteer with his local lifeboat station, he works as a full-time nurse practitioner in Neath Port Talbot Hospital, looks after his family and is a carer for his wife Rachel. In his spare time he runs marathons and competes in iron man competitions proving that not all heroes wear capes.
Nation Radio's Pride of Wales Awards 2024 was held in aid of Prostate Cymru and the category of Carer of the Year was sponsored by Llesiant Delta Wellbeing.
The criteria for the award sought a winner who goes the extra mile each day to ensure the wellbeing and comfort of those in their care. The nominations were open to professional caregivers and family members.
Maggie’s Cancer Charity nominated Eirian for this award for caring for his wife and daughters around the clock whilst working and fundraising for Maggie’s Centres. Maggie's Centre was delighted at Eirian’s win with him being such an inspiration.
Eirian said: ‘I am humbled to have received this award.’
Clive Morris, Lifeboat Operations Manager said: ‘I am thrilled that Eirian has been honoured with this award. He has shown exceptional dedication and bravery. The award is testament to his unwavering commitment in caring for his wife and providing a stable and loving environment for their daughters.
'Congratulations from RNLI Port Talbot to all the nominees and winners across all categories on such an inspiring occasion and Eirian we are so proud of you.'
