Youghal RNLI involved in rescue of three paddleboarders who get into difficulty
Youghal RNLI came to the aid of three paddleboarders at 5.16pm this evening (Wednesday 10 July) after they were reported in difficulty approximately 500m off Youghal front strand beach.
Weather conditions at the time were choppy with a strong north westerly offshore breeze.
Youghal RNLI Helm Jack Nolan alongside crew members Liam Keogh, Joe O'Connor and Noel Joyce launched the inshore lifeboat and arrived on the scene within 10 minutes.
Once at the location, the volunteer crew observed one male in the water holding onto the paddleboard with two younger males sitting on top and two lifeguards on surfboards who were with the casualties at the time.
The crew having assessed the situation, proceeded to bring the three casualties and the two lifeguards onboard the lifeboat and made their way towards the shore where they dropped off the lifeguards and the older male. They then made their way to Youghal lifeboat station where the other two males were handed into the care of the National Ambulance Service who then treated the casualties.
Speaking after today’s call out, John Innes, Youghal RNLI Launch Authority said: This call out was a multi-agency rescue with our colleagues from Rescue 117 in Waterford, the Guards, National Ambulance Service, Youghal lifeguards and Youghal Coast Guard unit all in attendance. It was a great response and we would like to thank everyone involved and we wish the casualties well.
'With the weather getting warmer and more inviting, we want to remind people the importance of always going prepared for you activity including wearing a suitable flotation device such as buoyancy aids as these casualties had, as the weather is very changeable.’
