Some 180 took part in the Beat The Tide run at Hunstanton on Sunday, 2 June.

They slogged it out in the sunshine over 5k and 10k courses along the beach in the event, which was organised by West Norfolk council.

On Sunday, 7 July, the council's cabinet member for events Bal Anota and event organiser Roger Partridge came to Hunstanton lifeboat station to present the proceeds to the crew.

Mr Anota and Mr Partridge were given a tour of the Ops Room by Launch Authority (LA) Jeff Lenton, before they headed down to the beach where the volunteer crew were recovering the station's lifeboat Spirit of West Norfolk and hovercraft Hunstanton Flyer after both craft had launched for training.

Mr Anota said: 'A pleasant day out at the beach can turn volatile very quickly.

'I never knew that everybody here was a volunteer - they're such a brilliant team.'

LA Jeff said: 'It's great that councillor Anota and Roger have come along to present the proceeds from the run today, for which we're very grateful.

'Some of the crew took part in Beat The Tide, so it was a real joint effort.'

The station operates both an Atlantic 85 fast inshore lifeboat, Spirit of West Norfolk and the search and rescue hovercraft Hunstanton Flyer.

Like more than 200 stations around the coast of the UK and Ireland, its lifesaving work would not be possible without the kindness of those who donate or remember the RNLI in their wills.
