Get on board and volunteer with Sunderland RNLI

Lifeboats News Release

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has an exciting opportunity for a volunteer to lead the existing team in the role of Lifeboat Operations Manager at Sunderland RNLI.

This rewarding role will help the charity to save lives at sea by carrying out the day-to-day management of the lifeboat station to ensure a permanent state of readiness for service.

The role would be suited to someone who is a:

  • Team player
  • Good communicator and people manager

And has:

  • Leadership skills
  • Local maritime knowledge (desirable)

Interested applicants would need to live or work within 20 minutes of the station and be between 18 and 70 years of age.

Joe Mitchell, RNLI Area Lifesaving Manager, explained: ‘We’re seeking a volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager to join and lead our friendly team at Sunderland RNLI.

‘The role provides the perfect opportunity to gain and hone management experience leading a diverse team in a dynamic volunteering environment.

‘The RNLI provides comprehensive training to turn ordinary people into lifesavers and having previous maritime experience isn’t essential. By volunteering, people gain some fantastic experience, knowledge and skills with the charity.

‘Around 95 percent of RNLI people are volunteers and find the experience an extremely rewarding one. It’s a great way to make new friends while helping to save lives at sea.’
