Blyth RNLI say 'Thank You' to local GP
Volunteer crew gathered at Blyth Lifeboat Station to say Thank You and farewell to local general practitioner
Dr Peter McEvedy was invited down to the lifeboat station at Blyth so the volunteer crew and operational staff could acknowledge the work that he had done on station as the Lifeboat Medical Adviser over the past four years.
As Dr McEvedy was retiring from his general practice so he was also stepping down as Blyth RNLI's Lifeboat Medical Adviser (LMA). He had taken over the position from Dr Reginald Carr MBE who passed away in 2020 and had stood down as LMA in 2018.
Dr McEvedy was presented with a framed photograph of himself with the volunteer crew.
Speaking at the presentation,Dr McEvedy said; 'I had some very big shoes to fill in those of Dr Carr and I don't think anyone could do that. I've very much enjoyed my time at the lifeboat station and to assist the volunteer crew with their medicals and ensure they are fit to save lives at sea. I'm looking forward to my retirement, although I wont be a stranger and aim to continue supporting the RNLI where I can.'
Terry Healy, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Blyth RNLI commented, 'We are sad to be losing Dr McEvedy as he's been an asset to Blyth RNLI and helped the operations team where required especially with the volunteer crew's medicals. We appreciate that he has given up his own time to ensure the crew were able to maintain their medical standards for going to sea. We hope that he's not going to be a stranger and he is very welcome back at the lifeboat station anytime.'
Blyth RNLI are currently recruiting a new Lifeboat Medical Adviser.
