The Harwich branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is thrilled to announce a series of special events to mark the 200th anniversary of this esteemed lifesaving organisation.

The celebrations will take place in July, bringing together the local community to honour the RNLI's remarkable history and ongoing commitment to saving lives at sea.
The festivities will begin with a Service of Celebration and Remembrance at St Nicholas Church in Harwich on Tuesday 9 July at 11.30am. This special service will feature a choir composed of students from local schools, providing a heartfelt tribute to the bravery and dedication of RNLI volunteers past and present.
The celebrations will continue on Saturday 13 July with a vibrant Festival on the Quay from 11am to 4pm. This family-friendly event is free to attend and offers a unique opportunity for the community to engage with the Harwich RNLI team.
Attendees will be able to view the lifeboats, speak with the crew, and learn more about the crucial role that RNLI volunteers play in maritime safety. Those interested in volunteering with the RNLI will also have the chance to find out more about how they can get involved.
The festival will feature an exciting boat race off Ha'penny Pier, visiting heritage lifeboats, and demonstrations by the Police Marine Unit and other emergency services. Additionally, there will be a variety of stalls offering crafts, homemade cakes, diverse food vendors, and entertainment for all ages, ensuring a fun and engaging day for everyone.

Harwich RNLI is based on The Quay, Harwich. The lifeboat station was founded in 1829 and the volunteer crew use an all-weather Severn class lifeboat (ALB)
