The Causeway was closed by the tide. An elderly person had fallen and suffered a head injury which was reported to be bleeding heavily.

The ambulance was directed to Seahouses Lifeboat Station, where the paramedic and her equipment were put aboard the lifeboat. The lifeboat launched and made best speed to Holy Island, where the local Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting to transport the paramedic to the casualty’s location. The injured person was assessed and given medical assistance. It was decided to await the tide dropping so that the ambulance could cross the causeway safely, to transport the casualty to hospital for treatment by road. The lifeboat was released and returned to station.

Seahouses RNLI Volunteer Press Officer, Ian Clayton commented: 'The RNLI are pleased to be able to assist in such situations, and we hope the injured person recovers quickly from their unfortunate accident.'

This was the second such incident on Holy Island in two days, with Amble RNLI responding swiftly and transporting a paramedic to the Island to attend to an ill elderly male.
