The crew launched their D-Class ILB (In-Shore Lifeboat) ‘Damar’s Pride’ into calm sea conditions but with some rain and headed to the last reported location adjacent to the east side of the pier near Carnarvon Road.

Local police were concerned for the safety of an individual who was on the roof of a local building with a suggestion they may enter the water. The crew held their position approximately 50m off Clacton Pier in readiness to assist.

After a few minutes, the crew were stood down by the Dover coast guard as the crew were no longer required, but with the situation ongoing and being managed by Essex Police. The crew returned to the lifeboat station where the ILB was recovered, cleaned, refuelled and back on service by 7.50pm.

RNLI Clacton Press Officer Mark Walsham said, ‘Should anyone see anyone in difficulties in or around the water, call 999 and ask for the coastguard to call for help.’
